Staples offers sustainable fashion for Father’s Day

  • Staples is combining Father’s Day with sustainability by encouraging consumers to recycle their old electronics and accessories in exchange for the opportunity to win a special sweater vest woven partly out of charging cables.
  • The promo is intended to raise awareness of the retailer as a destination for recycling of old cables, cords and other technology – as well as writing supplies, batteries and gaming systems – through partners ERI and Close The Loop.
  • Consumers who recycle items between May 20 and June 10 will receive a code to enter a sweepstakes for the “Cable” Knit Sweater Vest. They will also receive a coupon for $10 dollars off a $30 purchase.

Staples’ Father’s Day promo is a wink at dads’ hoarding tendencies, particularly when it comes to electronics and accessories that could one day have an alternative use. Additionally, it raises awareness of the retailer as a destination for recycling for all types of electronic devices, not simply ink cartridges, according to Marshall Warkentin, chief marketing and merchandising officer for Staples U.S. Retail.

“We’re constantly working to develop innovative solutions to reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility,” Warkentin said in a statement. “With over 165 million pounds of technology recycled since 2012, Staples is leading the recycling charge towards a greener future.”

According to the company, consumers have recycled more than 153 million pounds of technology and more than 211 million pounds of ink and toner in Staples stores since 2012.
