Cointreau celebrates Cinco de Mayo with giveaway

Cinco de Mayo is this Sunday and Cointreau wants to be in the margaritas, so much so that they are giving away money and encouraging consumers to buy drinks.

Ahead of the holiday, the Rémy Cointreau brand is allowing consumers to apply for a “Lime of Credit” to win money to buy drinks. The company will give away thousands of $20 prizes. The brand is even hosting a Cointreau Credit Union pop-up at Hudson Yards on May 2nd.

“Margaritas and Cinco de Mayo go hand-in-hand—and as it is an essential ingredient in The Original Margarita, Cointreau and Cinco de Mayo go hand-in-hand as well,” said Craig Sherman, vice president for crafted spirits at Rémy Cointreau America. “This year we wanted to shake up our Cinco de Mayo program by introducing the Lime of Credit campaign, a refreshing twist on credit that offers consumers a chance to win real money to invest in the best tasting Margaritas— those made with Cointreau.”

Rémy Cointreau recently reported a 19.2% drop to $1.28 billion in organic revenue in the year ending March 2024, compared with its pre-pandemic earnings 2019-20.

Margaritas are a big summer drink in the U.S. market and the brand has an opportunity to kick off the season with Cinco de Mayo. The campaign support the brand platform “Cointreau Changes Everything,” which is the idea that a delicious cocktail made with Cointreau can elevate any moment. “Whether it be an at-home gathering, a party, or out at a favorite bar or restaurant. For consumers to have a Margarita that is truly transformative, it must be made MargaRight according to the original recipe: Cointreau, tequila, and fresh lime juice,” said Sherman.

“The Margarita is the No. 1 cocktail in the United States and Cinco de Mayo kicks off peak Margarita season around the country. It is the perfect time of year to reinforce the importance of Cointreau as an essential ingredient in the original recipe and to always enjoy a Margarita the MargaRight way —with Cointreau, tequila, and fresh lime juice,” he continued.

“As more Margaritas are consumed during Cinco de Mayo than any other time of year, it represents the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how using quality ingredients like Cointreau enhances their celebrations. This year’s Lime of Credit campaign is all about getting better Margaritas in the hands of consumers so their Cinco de Mayo festivities will be even more memorable.”
