- Verizon has teamed up with current “it” actor Connor Storrie and acclaimed filmmaker Nia DaCosta on a new brand film that emphasizes the wireless character’s connectivity.
- The new 4-minute film, “Look Behind You,” features Storrie as a character trapped in a cabin full of mysterious phone calls, flickering lights and other unexplainable occurrences.
- Through a twisty payoff, the film is intended to emphasize Verizon’s brand positioning as having a strong wireless network that can reach the most remote and unexpected areas.
Verizon hopes that Storrie’s recent notoriety as one of the stars of the buzzy “Heated Rivalry” series will gain some attention for the spot, which is both Storrie’s first appearance in a brand film, and DaCosta’s first brand project.
“The collaboration and creative process was pure magic,” said Verizon’s chief marketing officer Leslie Berland, in a statement. We set out to bring Verizon’s network to life in a way that’s bold and unexpected, and we’re thrilled with the result. Nia is an absolute artist, and Connor is simply a phenomenon.”
The narrative builds as Storrie plays a version of himself, looking to escape his daily stressors for a night in a remote cabin. As soon as he lets himself in, however, the strange occurrences begin, and Storrie becomes increasingly convinced someone is trying to harm him. A mysterious figure appears in the background, heightening the tension, particularly when the front door begins to unlock on its own.
At the door is a ride-share driver Connor had apparently ordered earlier. The driver, seeing Storrie come to the door with a knife in hand (he had been cutting vegetables while rehearsing), runs off, feeling threatened himself. Still confused by all the strange happenings, Storrie looks at his phone and sees all his smart home apps open. A montage reveals that he has been setting off all of the devices in his home through butt-dialing. The spot concludes with the message: “The best butt. The best network. There’s no escape.”
