Dr. Charlene Thomas is a distinguished entertainment executive and marketing strategist whose work has helped shape the global impact of hip-hop, music, sports, fashion, and culture. Holding a PhD in Marketing and an MBA in International Business, she has built an influential career at the intersection of music, branding, and cultural storytelling. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has held pivotal roles at LOUD Records, Roc-A-Fella Records, Slip-N-Slide Records, and Def Jam Recordings, leading groundbreaking campaigns for some of the most iconic artists in music including Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Jagged Edge, Trina, and many others. She also played a key role in landmark artist signings, including the Academy Award®-winning hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia. 

Renowned for her ability to bridge entertainment and brand culture, Dr. Thomas has orchestrated impactful partnerships between major artists and global brands. During her tenure with the Steve Rifkind Company, she revitalized declining market share for brands such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Miramax Films, Hugo Boss, Starter, and Levi’s by aligning them with emerging cultural movements and influential talent. 

Her expertise also extends into sports, fashion, and media. Dr. Thomas has served as a marketing consultant to elite athletes and played a pivotal role in the foundation and rise of Ice Cube’s groundbreaking BIG3 3-on-3 basketball league. In the fashion space, she was the marketing strategist behind the launch of startup clothing brand Arme, helping drive more than $10 million in sales within its first year, and also contributed to the success of Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum artist Nelly’s clothing line Vokal. In media, Dr. Thomas serves as Executive Producer of the NBPA/Think 450 series The Post Up with Matt Barnes and Executive Producer of Kenyon Martin’s Neat and Unfiltered podcast. 

At Def Jam Recordings, Dr. Thomas has led marketing initiatives for legendary and contemporary artists including LL COOL J, DMX, Public Enemy, 2 Chainz, Jeezy, Big Sean, Buju Banton, Fabolous, Jadakiss, and The Clipse. More recently, she has worked on releases from Muni Long and Fridayy while overseeing major soundtrack campaigns such as Coming 2 America, House Party (2023), and Blade Runner: Black Lotus. In 2025, she also played a key role in the global rollout of Rihanna’s R20 campaign, celebrating the superstar’s two decades of influence in music and culture and helping propel her into the Top 4 artists globally on Spotify. Dr. Thomas additionally helped spearhead the celebration of Def Jam’s historic 40th anniversary, honoring the label’s enduring cultural legacy. 

In 2025, Dr. Thomas was appointed Senior Vice President of Global Strategy and Head of Marketing for Catalog Stimulation and Revenue Marketing at the

REPUBLIC Collective, which oversees global strategy for Def Jam Recordings, Republic Records, Island Records, Mercury Records, MCA, and Universal Records. 

Beyond her corporate leadership, Dr. Thomas is a dedicated cultural advocate and educator committed to preserving and amplifying the legacy of Black music while investing in the next generation of industry leaders. She serves as an Adjunct Professor at Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business, where she shares her expertise in marketing, music business, and cultural strategy with emerging professionals. Dr. Thomas also works alongside civil servants and organizations supporting BIPOC communities through community initiatives focused on youth empowerment and addressing critical issues such as homelessness and hunger. She further serves as an advisor for the Grammy Museum’s Hip-Hop exhibit and sits on the Associate Board of The Hip Hop Museum, supporting efforts to celebrate and document the genre’s global impact. 

Her contributions to music, marketing, and culture have earned her numerous honors, including recognition as a Billboard Women in Music Honoree (2024, 2025, and 2026), Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Player (2024), Women in Marketing Honoree (2024), and the Icon Award from the Advertising Club of New York (2024). In recognition of her expertise and leadership within the creative and marketing industries, Dr. Thomas has also served as a juror for the 2025 ANA Multicultural & Inclusive Marketing Excellence Awards and the 2026 Clio Music Awards.
