- Social media platform Snap will soon begin enabling users to subscribe to creators’ content in a bid to be more partner-friendly and develop more stable revenue streams beyond advertising, according to published reports.
- The company will begin testing “Creator Subscriptions” this week with a small cohort of creators. Through the feature, Snapchat users will pay to subscribe to their favorite creators to gain access to exclusive content.
- Initial subscription pricing will range from $4.99 to $19.99 per month. Prices will be set by the creators, who will receive approximately 60% of subscription revenue after platform fees. Snap will provide creators with performance data to inform pricing decisions.
The initial group to pilot the program will include popular creators like David Dobrik, Catherine Paiz, Harry Jowsey, Jeremiah Brown and Skai Jackson. Fifteen creators will take part in the initial test, with roughly 10 more from the U.S. to come on board early in the process. The company said it is already conducting outreach in Canada, the U.K. and France for further expansion.
“As the creator economy matures, one thing is clear: sustainable businesses are built on real relationships,” said said Jim Shepherd, Snap’s head of content partnerships, in a LinkedIn post. “The next phase of monetization isn’t just about reach; it’s about connection, community, and predictability.”
The feature will initially be available to users of Apple iOS devices. The company did not indicate when it would open to Android users.
