- As the 2025 football season gets underway, Progressive is bringing back its “Backup” campaign for a second round.
- The campaign depicts everyday scenarios in which people call in a substitute to fill in when things aren’t going as planned. In the commercials, the substitutes are NFL backup quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Tommy DeVito, Tyler Huntley and Mitch Trubisky.
- This year’s campaign also features a season-long sweepstakes tied to when backup quarterbacks are called into NFL games. When such an event occurs, fans will be instructed to post on Instagram and TikTok with the hashtags #CountOnProgressive and #Sweepstakes to enter.
The campaign, now in its second year, depicts second-string quarterbacks coming in to save the day when everyday situations go awry. In one commercial, New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is called in to take the place of a young boy who just can’t seem to get the right smile and pose for a family photo. That commercial will debut during Fox’s coverage of the Ohio State vs. Texas game on Saturday, August 30. The others, featuring Bridgewater, Trubisky and Huntley, will roll out over the NFL season. In addition to broadcast, the spots will run on online video, streaming, social and digital.
