- PepsiCo is jumping on the prebiotic soda trend, launching Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, a 30-calorie drink with 5 grams of sugar, no artificial sweeteners and 3 grams of prebiotic fiber.
- The drink is the first prebiotic cola to launch in the traditional cola category and will be available in original cola and cherry vanilla flavors. It will be available online this fall and in retail stores in early 2026.
- Last March, Pepsi acquired prebiotic soda brand Poppi for approximately $2 billion, as the category, which Poppi and Olipop have dominated, has grown in popularity with U.S. consumers.
“Our portfolio has always adapted to the needs and flavor preferences of the consumer,” said Ram Krishnan, CEO, PepsiCo Beverages U.S., in a release. “Pepsi Prebiotic Cola represents the next leap forward in giving consumers choice, optionality and functional ingredients in their cola experience, without sacrificing the iconic Pepsi taste we’re known for delivering.”
Although a relatively new category, prebiotic sodas, which promise to enhance gut health and increase fiber intake, have gained traction with consumers. The global market is valued at $210.4 million and is projected to reach $443.8 million by 2032, according to Factmr. That forecast has obviously attracted the attention of the larger soda players, including Coca-Cola, which launched a line of prebiotic Simply Pop sodas last February.
