Panera makes its play for National Bagel Day - Brand Innovators

Panera makes its play for National Bagel Day

  • Panera is celebrating National Bagel Day (Jan. 15) by bringing back its Asiago Bagel Stacks sandwiches permanently and introducing a new extension of them for breakfast.
  • To promote the new products, the brand is also selling a Jenga-like game called “Stack and Spill,” modeled after the sandwiches’ layers.
  • The QSR chain will also celebrate the day by offering the sandwiches through a buy-one, get-one promotion.

Panera is promoting the sandwiches and games via a digital campaign featuring Ciara Miller and Venita Aspen (from Bravo’s Summer House and Southern Charm, respectively). In a video, the two play the Stack & Spill game, which includes special challenges printed on the blocks, in a Panera restaurant. In between the challenges (which include texting an ex), they enjoy eating some of the Asiago Bagel Stacks sandwiches.

The game will be available for purchase through a dedicated website for $7.99, which is the same price as the Asiago Bagel Stacks. Each game will also come with a $10 Panera gift card. Panera has recently been creating non-food tie-in promotions for its products, including a handbag inspired by its Croissant Toast Sandwiches and a “S’mac and Cheese” lip balm.

The Asiago Bagel Stacks will include lunch and dinner options, such as Chicken Roma and Spicy Steak. In addition, the company is introducing three new savory breakfast options. All Asiago Bagel Stacks sandwiches, including the new breakfast sandwiches, will be sold through a buy-one-get-one promotion on National Bagel Day (January 15).

In addition, the restaurant chain is introducing a new “Asiago Everything Bagel,” an asiago bagel with everything bagel spices, to its menu. The product is Panera’s first new bagel offering in 11 years.
