Verizon is giving the celebrities on its marketing roster the holiday season off, choosing instead to highlight the company’s deals during the gift-giving season through a new marketing campaign.
“This year’s campaign is lighthearted and cheerful, focusing on how friends and family can find the best plan for gifting during the holiday season,” said Kristin McHugh, Verizon’s SVP of marketing and creative. “We recognize that finding the perfect gift at the perfect price is a massive undertaking for our customers, and we want to show them that there’s no better plan this season than Verizon.”
The campaign launched recently with a commercial depicting a group of holiday carolers singing a version of Carol of the Bells, with lyrics espousing the holiday deals to a married couple at the door. At the end of the commercial, it is revealed that the husband paid the carolers to convince his wife that he needs a new phone and that he could have saved that money by just switching to Verizon. A second, Spanish-language spot depicts a family passing food around a holiday dinner table while discussing money-saving deals.
“We’re leaning into holiday traditions like caroling because we know that music connects on an emotional level – especially during this time of year,” McHugh said. “We want to ensure that customers feel a sense of holiday joy through the tunes they love while making gift-giving as stress-free as possible.”
The campaign will be supplemented by a weekly social content series, “Holiday Hacks,” that will give consumers tips and tricks to get value from their phones and phone plans. “From helpful ‘hints’ that can be shared with loved ones via Instagram to hacks on how to get the biggest bundles at the lowest prices, we’re showing consumers just how valuable it is to be a Verizon customer – not just during the holidays, but all year long,” McHugh said.
