Succession star goes to college in new Uber One ad

  • Uber One for Students has launched its first ever ad campaign. The effort promotes the discounts offered to students who use the ride share and food delivery service.
  • The campaign is centered around a video starring Brian Cox, who enrolls in college just for the student discount. In the humorous ads, Cox plays a character similar to the tyrannical media mogul he plays in Succession, Logan Roy.
  • The new campaign, from creative agency Special US, will run across TV, OLV, social, digital, OOH and audio.

Uber launched Uber One for Students earlier this year and this campaign reminds students of this program and its benefits in an entertaining fashion.

Members get $0 Delivery Fee and up to 10% off orders, 6% Uber One credits on rides, member-only pricing and discounts from favorite brands for $4.99 per month. This effort builds on a series of activations the brand has been doing nationwide including a campus tour that brought ‘The One Shop’ to colleges across the country.

“In our first campaign for Uber One for Students we’re shining a spotlight on all the benefits– a membership so good, it is worth going back to school. When we were considering who would be the perfect person to experience college – mixing in with today’s students, navigating dorm life and class schedules – Brian Cox immediately came to mind,” said Georgie Jeffreys, head of marketing, US&C, in a comment shared with Brand Innovators. “With his classic wit and humorous irritability, he proves that while student life might not be for him, it’s worth it for the discounts on food and rides to parties. Why else would Brian Cox do it?”
