For Hormel, PTO means ‘Pepperoni Time Off’ - Brand Innovators

For Hormel, PTO means ‘Pepperoni Time Off’

  • People may have just had a day off for Labor Day, but it can’t be too soon to take another one. Hormel is encouraging consumers to take some time to celebrate National Pepperoni Day on September 20.
  • The brand has set up a website, www.PepperoniTimeOff.com (a.k.a. “PTO”), where consumers can send an email to friends, co-workers or other interested parties requesting “coverage for all duties” to spend some “quality time” with Hormel pepperoni.
  • Once there, consumers can also enter for a chance to win a trip to New York City or Chicago during National Pizza Month (October) to enjoy their own experience in one of the country’s famed pizza cities. The brand is also encouraging consumers to share their “PTO” news on social media with the #PepperoniTimeOff tagline for more chances to win.

A video promo for the contest depicts people working in their humdrum jobs, such as in a gray office cubicle or delivering packages, when they are suddenly reminded of National Pepperoni Day on September 20. Upon that realization, they get a burst of energy to run out of the office (or drop their packages) and bolt for the doors for their “Pepperoni Time Off.”

Additionally, the brand has enlisted actress and cookbook author Tiffani Thiessen to act as a spokesperson for the promotion. She will use her social channels to spread awareness about National Pepperoni Day and taking “PTO.”

“We believe that Hormel Pepperoni fans have earned a day off. But not just any day off. Twenty-four hours dedicated exclusively to their love of Hormel Pepperoni pizza,” said Nick Schweitzer, director of marketing for Snacking and Entertaining at Hormel Foods, in a statement.
