Nature Valley brings back 80’s snack for Stranger Things tie-in

  • General Mills brand Nature Valley is bringing back its 80s-era snack, Peanut Butter Boppers, as part of a tie-in with the final season of Stranger Things.
  • The snack consisting of peanut better, crisp rice cereal and fudge chips, appears in the recently released “Part 1” of the show’s final season, and has also been available online, for sale along with a shirt and a recipe card, for $19.87. (The website to order the product is sreppob.com, or “Boppers” spelled backwards, in reference to the show’s alternate world, the Upside Down.)
  • While the snack is only being sold as a limited-edition product, the site has a recipe available, which naturally includes Nature Valley granola products, for those who want to make it at home.

Netflix saw 59.5 million views during the first five days of “Stranger Things” Season 5, the streamer’s largest debut ever, according to Variety. Brands have been jumping on this cultural phenomenon with co-branded products and Nature Valley is one of several General Mills brands to activate around Netflix’s hit. Among some of the others are Fruit Roll-Ups, Fruit by the Foot, Gushers and Totino’s, which made a “Hellfire Club”-themed version of its pizza rolls, named after the show’s Dungeons & Dragons club.

Netflix is rolling out the final season of Stranger Things in three parts. The first premiered on November 26, and the third will drop on December 25. The show’s finale episode will hit the streaming service on December 31. In a release, Nature Valley alluded to further tie-ins with those later episodes, which will be revealed through the brand’s TikTok account.

“We’re beyond excited to bring Boppers back from the 1980s and into fans’ hands one more time,” said Ray Joncas, vice president, bars business unit at General Mills, in a statement. “The beloved creamy, indulgent peanut butter-filled snack is the perfect match for streaming the new season, and we can’t wait for fans to enjoy!”
