- Mint Mobile may not sell hot dogs (yet), but that doesn’t mean the wireless carrier doesn’t have something in common with the encased meat product in a really, really roundabout way.
- In a new commercial, Mint Mobile owner and primary spokesperson Ryan Reynolds announces that the company has hired former Costco CFO Richard Galanti as the company’s new “Chief Anti-Inflation Officer.” At his prior company, Galanti was responsible for keeping the retailer’s hot dog combo meal at $1.50 for 40 years, despite rising costs of living.
- In the spot (not coincidentally timed to the 4th of July), Reynolds notes that Mint Mobile has also not raised its introductory rates from $15/month and never will. To ensure this, Reynolds says the company hired Galanti, who offers his own reassurance that Mint will never raise its prices on hot dogs, leaving Reynolds with a bit of confusion.
“We’ve been fighting inflation since 2016, when we first started selling premium wireless for $15 per month,” said Andrew Fried, CMO at Mint Mobile, in a statement. “Although his persistence in advocating for customers inspires us, I’m not sure there will be much for our new Chief Anti-Inflation Officer to do because we have no plans to increase the price from $15/mo.”
The spot is slated to air several times during ESPN’s coverage of Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest over the July 4 weekend.
