- Corona Extra celebrated two centenary milestones for its 100th anniversary and the 100th Protect Our Beaches clean-up with a once-in-a-century celebration at Chicago’s North Avenue Beach.
- For the celebration, guests 21 and older were asked to present a token of waste they had collected from the beach earlier in the day to celebrate the brand’s milestone of removing one million pounds of plastic from the brand’s production and U.S. beaches since 2020.
- To further celebrate the accomplishment, Corona is running a sweepstakes that will send two people to their favorite beach within the contiguous U.S. states. (The contest is open to adults 21+ in all 50 states.)
Corona and Oceanic Global launched the Protect Our Beaches campaign in 2020 with a goal to clean up 100 beaches and remove one million pounds of plastic by the brand’s 100th anniversary in 2025. According to the organizations, they exceeded this goal with the help of more than 51 local organizations and non-profit partners and 3,500 volunteers.
“Across our 100-year history, the beach has become more than just a place to enjoy a Corona – it’s an unwavering symbol of the brand’s optimism and mindset of being present in the moment,” said Rob Nelson, vice president, brand marketing at Corona USA, in a statement. “We’re honored to have been a part of so many fiestas, anniversaries, but also the everyday moments that matter to our fans over the last century. So, celebrating these two milestones with those who made Corona the number one most loved beer brand in the country made it that much sweeter. Salud to the next 100 years!”
