Bazooka Candy Brands is taking its iconic candy and getting into the wedding business, hoping to make it a party favor for engagement parties, showers, bachelorette parties, welcome and wedding recovery kits.
“Honestly, the strategy started with paying attention. Our fans got here before we did. Brides, grooms, bridesmaids and bachelorette parties have been reaching for Ring Pops for years – from shower games to actual proposals. While we didn’t invent that behavior, we just decided to make it official,” said Dave Dreyer, chief marketing officer at Bazooka Brands.
“From there, it was our goal to bring something unique to the category. Weddings are a category with a lot of conventions, and most of them are very serious. We wanted a wedding product that was actually fun, so we made one,” he continued.
“The rest was making sure this held up as a real collection,” he added. “It would have been easy to do something novelty for a quick hit, but we wanted to be part of the moments couples will remember forever. That means building something a couple would actually choose for their day. We rethought everything from the product to the packaging to ensure it was all “wedding worthy”.
The brand decided to enter the wedding category with a well-known player who knew the market well, so they tapped Mindy Weiss. “Mindy is behind some of the most iconic celebrations in the country, and she understands what makes a wedding small touch feel considered rather than gimmicky,” explained Dreyer. “What made the partnership work is how deeply involved she was. She was there from product conception to the first packaging consultation through campaign launch, bringing an instinct for how a detail actually lives in a celebration. She also understood the idea immediately.”
The candy brand also knew that getting into wedding dress stores would help position the candy for the moment. “David’s Bridal is the largest wedding retailer in North America. And exactly where you wouldn’t expect to see a Ring Pop,” explained Dreyer. “So that’s where we started. We knew we had to treat this launch differently. David’s Bridal is our exclusive in-store partner and Amazon is our e-commerce partner through launch.”
