Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar has hired Michelle Chin, a long time Starbucks veteran, as its new chief marketing officer, effective September 2.
“Applebee’s has a unique place in American culture—welcoming, familiar, and full of heart,” said Michelle Chin, in a statement. “I’m energized by the opportunity to build on that legacy by deepening guest engagement, evolving our brand presence, and driving bold, creative marketing that keeps Applebee’s top of mind and top of table.”
Applebee’s reported an increase in Q2 traffic and sales and has hired Chin and Jay Wong as chief operations officer to support the brand’s growth. In her new role, Chin is tasked with growing the company’s in-house marketing capabilities, as well as expanding menu innovation and guest experience.
Chin succeeds Joel Yashinsky, who left the restaurant chain for Burger King in the spring.
In addition to Starbucks, Chin has also held senior leadership positions at Godiva and Unilever.
