Iconic direct marketing company Publishers Clearing House has named Jason John as chief marketing officer, a newly-created position in the organization.

John has spent the last four years as Gilt’s vice president of online, mobile and social marketing. In his new role at PCH, he will be responsible for the development and execution of overall marketing strategy, reporting to Mark Cullinane, General Manager of Publishers Clearing House Digital.

Tapping into the executive’s expertise in emerging media and technologies, the move signifies a major effort on the part of PCH to invest in its mobile and digital properties, all of which fall under John’s purview.

“Ultimately, we’re trying to build a very exciting entertainment business,” Cullinane said of the hire.” At the end of the day, we’re no longer your mother’s direct marketing business, but one that thinks of consumer experiences in a digital world, and we’re investing the the talent to build compelling experiences that are a tribute to the Publishers Clearing House brand.”

To that point, when asked about specific areas of focus, John told Brand Innovators he aims to build a media and entertainment network while identifying potential acquisition targets that may further his cause. John also emphasized the growing importance of mobile, and mobile data in particular, to companies like PCH.

John is a member of the Brand Innovators Board of Advisors and a frequent speaker at Brand Innovators events.
