Adam Kmiec joins Walgreens as Senior Director, Social Media and Content.

After leaving Walgreens nearly two years ago to join Cambell Soup Company, Adam Kmiec is rejoining the Deerfield, Illinois-based firm in the newly-created position Senior Director, Social Media and Content.

“When I left Walgreens it wasn’t an easy decision. Walgreens was and remains a tremendous organization with a leadership and culture, few can rival,” Kmiec said in announcing his new post. “During my first tenure, they enabled and empowered us to create an award winning, best in class social media organization, that I’m proud to rejoin and lead.

Kmiec characterized Walgreens as “one of the most digitally fit organizations in the world, with a leadership that’s truly invested in succeeding in an increasingly digital and omni-channel world,” said the bar was high when he first joined and is “much higher now, but that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited about rejoining. The other is the people.I’m looking forward to collaborating with exceptionally talented forward looking leaders.”

In November, Walgreens appointed Sona Chawla as President of E-Commerce, Digital and Chief Marketing officer. Chawla leads a newly created Digital and Marketing Division and Kmiec will be integral in collaborating on the establishment of an enterprise-wide digital marketing experience as well as customer loyalty and insights groups that advance Walgreens’ “Well Experience” strategy.

Kmiec was previously Director of Global Digital Marketing and Social Media at Campbell Soup. His 16-year career spans both the client and agency sides of the marketing and advertising industries, including Fallon, Leo Burnett, and ConAgra Foods. During his prior tenure at Walgreens, which lasted about a year, Kmiec was credited with In his one year at Walgreens, leading the brand into the social-mobile space and cementing a groundbreakign partnership wtih Foursquare.

At Campbell, his responsibilities building social bridges spanned both consumer-facing communications and corporate initiatives. “Change, especially in this space, is a given,” Kmiec said. “The Campbell Soup Company is a great organization, filled with talent and lead by a phenomenal CEO. I’m thankful they gave me the opportunity to build their digital organization. The friendships created will be long lasting and the mentors I found will play an ongoing role in making me better.”

A man of diverse interests, including photography, Kmiec serves on the Board of Advisors of Brand Innovators, the nation’s largest community of digitally-forward brand marketers.

Walgreens is the nation’s largest drugstore chain, with 8,131 retail outlets in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. It’s brands include Duane Reade brand. The company’s fiscal 2013 sales were $72 billion.
